Why Is The PS4 Controller Flashing White Light Then Orange?

One of the most common issues with PS4 controllers is that the controller would flash/blink white a few times then it turns orange. This usually happens when you connect the controller to the PS4 console and try to press any of its buttons.

Luckily this is not a hard-to-fix issue, rather it’s easy, and in a few steps, you can get your PS4 controller working normally like before.

Fixing PS4 Controller Flashing White Light Then Orange

Here are several suggested solutions to fixing this issue verified by specialists:

1. Power-Cycle Your PS4

The very first thing you have to do is to power-cycle your PS4. To do this, you have to turn it off, unplug it from the power source, leave it unplugged for around 5 minutes, then plug it in again and turn it on.

In order to turn off your PS4, all you have to do is: when your PS4 is on press the power button on the PS4 until you hear a second beep.

It’s recommended to disconnect every device attached to your console, like an external HDD, headsets, and surely the PS4 controller.

2. Connect The Controller With USB And Reset It

After your PS4 is on, connect the controller to it once you’re asked to. At this point, you have to factory reset it.

All you have to do is get a thin paperclip and press and hold the reset button on the back of the controller for 10 to 20 seconds. You can read our guide on how to reset the PS4 controller if you need more details on this.

3. Put The Controller Into Bluetooth Pairing Mode

Now, after you have reset your PS4 controller and while it is still turned off, put the controller into Bluetooth pairing mode. To do that, you have to hold down the Share button and PS button. Once done, the PS4 controller will flash white.

4. Find Your Controller On The Bluetooth Devices Section

On your PS4 home screen, head to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth Devices. You’re supposed to see your controller listed there and ready to pair. Just pair it and that shall resolve your issue.

5. Connect Your PS4 Controller To Another Device

Attempting to connect it to another device before returning to the PS4 is an additional possibility. This occasionally works for some reason (if you have a friend with a PS4 console, a Vita TV, etc.). I strongly doubt there is a controller issue, but if there is, you can get parts for them for very little money, and replacing them is as easy as following a youtube video to open up the controller.

Conclusion

Many experts have verified that following these steps carefully and implementing them the right way should resolve the issue of the PS4 controller that flashes white light then orange.
