Why PS5 Won’t Load Games and How to Fix It
The PlayStation 5 (PS5) is Sony’s latest gaming console, offering gamers a wide variety of games and features. But, like any device, it is not without its flaws. One of the most common issues reported on the PS5 is that games won’t load. If you’ve experienced this issue, you’ll want to know why PS5 won’t load games and how to fix it.
What Causes Games Not to Load on PS5?
There can be several reasons why a game won’t load on the PS5:
- The most common cause is a lack of available storage space. The PS5 requires a minimum of 825 GB of storage space, so if your console is running low on space, games may not load.
- Another common cause of games not loading is a connection issue. If your console isn’t properly connected to the internet, games won’t be able to access the necessary online content.
- Finally, an issue with the game itself can cause games not to load. If the game is corrupted or incompatible with the PS5, it won’t be able to load.
How to Fix Games Not Loading on PS5
If you’re experiencing issues with games not loading on your PS5, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
1. Check Storage Space
The first step is to check your PS5’s storage space. If your console is running low on storage, you won’t be able to load games. To check your storage space, go to Settings > System > Storage.
If you’re running low on space, you can free up space by deleting unused games and apps, or by transferring them to an external hard drive.
2. Check Network Connection
If your console is not properly connected to the internet, games won’t load. To check your connection, go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection. If the test fails, you can try resetting your router or using an ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi.
3. Check Game Compatibility
If the game you’re trying to play is not compatible with the PS5, it won’t load. To check if a game is compatible with your console, search for it on the PlayStation Store. If the game is not available, you won’t be able to play it on your PS5.

It’s your Internet connection
I had the same issue, tried to restart my PS5 and it would be in shutdown limbo.. sound familiar?
Re-verify your Internet connection and it’ll all be fixed. The reason your games aren’t loading is that they don’t pass the verification process (loading your online preferences, profile etc) or alternatively your ps5 can’t verify you own the game you’re trying to play with your psn account, so it goes into a weird limbo state and doesn’t fully load (or unload) the game. It doesn’t tell you this or show a lock on your games unless you clear cache (which you need to go into safe mode for) It was once I cleared my cache I seen the locks against all my games which suggested it couldn’t verify my purchases, so checked the Internet connection.
