How To Access Hidden Web Browser On PS5
The PS5 comes with a web browser that works, but it’s not visible. Here are some tips to navigate the web with your PlayStation 5. It might surprise you to learn that the PlayStation 5 doesn’t come with a web browser. This seems like a downgrade as the PlayStation 4 already had a web browser built-in.
The PS5 has a hidden web browser that can be accessed through a complex method for the controller on PC. If you are really looking for a way to surf the web on your PS5, we will show you.
How to Access the PS5 Web Browser
- Go to the Settings page on the main menu to access the web browser. Click on Users and Accounts, then the Link With Other Services option.
- Select Twitter to create a Twitter login page. To access this method, you must unlink your old Twitter account.
- You can’t log in. Instead, hover the mouse pointer over the Twitter bird logo at top of the page and then click the X button.
You’ll be able to log in to Twitter the same way you use any desktop browser. However, you don’t need to log in to Twitter to continue. Instead, click the Forgot your password? link. Click the Forgot Password? link.
Click the Twitter bird logo in the top right corner of the page to load Twitter’s main site. You will find many links at the bottom. Locate Directory in the bottom-right corner and click it.
This opens a page with a Twitter search box at the top. Click on this link to search Twitter. Then click on links to explore the site on your PS5.
There is no browser address bar. You will need to search Twitter to find the site you are looking for and then click links. You could search for “MakeUseOf”, to locate the Twitter account, and then use the link provided in our bio to load it.
For web searches, we recommend that you search for the Twitter page of DuckDuckGo and Bing. Google’s Twitter bio isn’t linked to its website. But you can search for one of the other Twitter pages to reach Google (or any other site you want).
Is the PS5 Web browser worth it?
Given the way Sony has hidden the browser, the PS5 web browser doesn’t look all that great. Websites that are only text-based and contain images load fine. However, any site that contains multimedia is not reliable.
While you might be able to access a video site with no dedicated PS5 app, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to watch content there. However, don’t expect any complicated web apps to be available or to play games. Without a physical keyboard, using the software keyboard is difficult. Additionally, the Twitter workaround you get every time is inefficient. This prevents your PSN account from being used with Twitter.
Most people don’t see any reason to use the browser on their PS5. You probably have a smartphone near you that is much more user-friendly and can work with nearly all websites. This is a vast improvement on the PS5’s awkward browser experience. We can only think of one scenario where the browser could be useful: if you are looking up something using PlayStation VR but don’t want it to go off.
Hideaki from Sony stated that they had doubts that a web browser was necessary. But, this is not likely to be a priority as everyone has better ways of accessing the internet.
Strangely, the PS5 has a Settings page called Web Browser. This allows users to set up cookie deletion and similar functions. The reason this page exists is unclear as the browser isn’t intended for general use.
If you really need to, browse the web on PS5. Now you are able to use the PS5’s limited web browser. It’s possible to use it for fun, but you may not need it. It’s nothing more than an Easter egg for PS5
